Learning
English
ABC aims to ensure every learner has an exceptional experience with us – in the school, during lessons, in accommodation, and while exploring the local area and parts of the UK.
Our goal is for students to enjoy a language course that improves their communication skills in English and enhances their understanding of the UK. Each programme is packed with lessons, activities, and excursions, and we hope that every learner becomes more confident using English in their daily lives. At the end of the course, students will give a class presentation showcasing what they have learned about the UK.
Our programmes are for international students aged 12-17 with levels of classes available from Elementary to Advanced. Students will take a placement test on their first day in classes to sort them into their right level.
All classes are delivered by ABC teachers, with activities alongside other students and a full social programme. Your child will learn in a fun, creative way while forming lifelong friendships.
With the help of qualified, inspiring teachers, your child will be able to achieve their English language goals.
Students are grouped into classes based on age and language level to ensure they can interact with peers of similar age and ability. All students undergo an initial assessment to ensure they are placed in the most appropriate class for their needs.
We want every child studying with ABC to have a life-changing experience where they improve their English, discover the UK, build lasting friendships, and acquire knowledge that will benefit them throughout their lives.
Learn English and More
Our classes focus on developing all English language skills, ensuring every student gets plenty of speaking practice. They will also learn about British life and culture, gaining a deeper understanding of the UK while becoming better English speakers.
Each class is centred on a topic or theme related to British life and culture, teaching students to use English in real-world situations. English is the only language spoken at all times in the camps.
To be most effective, lessons at ABC are challenging, interactive, and fun! Our teachers use a variety of teaching techniques to ensure students can fully engage in the classroom and have continuous opportunities to learn, improve, and practise, practise, practise.
Students are placed in classes according to age and level, allowing them to interact with others of similar age and ability.
Presentation Based Learning
Each class syllabus is designed to activate every student’s English skills and encourage them to communicate with their classmates. By linking lessons to British life and culture, we provide students with the chance to learn more about the places they visit, maximising the value of each excursion.
At the end of each week, students deliver a presentation showcasing what they have learned in their lessons, excursions, and activities. This project, developed throughout the week, encourages creativity and allows students to actively apply everything they have learned.
The presentation serves as a goal for each student, fostering independent thinking and enabling them to focus on topics that inspire them while utilising all their English language skills. This task-based approach helps them develop valuable life skills alongside their English proficiency.
All students receive a certificate and an individual learning outcomes report from their teacher at the end of the course.
How We Teach
All our teachers are qualified (e.g. Cambridge CELTA or equivalent, plus a degree) and trained by ABC in using our syllabus to get the best out of each lesson. We care about every individual and want them to achieve their learning goals.
Your child will learn English through reading, writing, speaking, and listening. We aim to encourage communication with new friends and teachers! They will also expand their vocabulary, learn how the English language is structured (grammar), and improve their pronunciation.
Students will learn in many different ways, and we ensure lessons complement their trips around London and the UK. We teach English that helps them navigate, understand the museums and landmarks they visit, and enjoy their time here. Classes will cover aspects of British culture, famous figures, and sports. We aim for everyone to return home not only with improved English but also with a greater understanding of the UK.
In class, students will engage in hands-on activities, move around, create projects, work in groups, and develop both study and life skills.
Our timetable and programme is taught using the popular ZIGZAG method. This means that in week one you will have lessons in the morning and activities in the afternoon, the following week it will be reversed. Some groups will start their course with afternoon lessons in their first week and then morning lessons in their second week.
Activities and Excursions
After each lesson, your child will participate in an activity or excursion designed to help them enjoy themselves while using their newly acquired English skills. Activities include excursions to London and other UK locations, often linked to the day’s lesson topic, as well as karaoke, British quizzes, discos, talent shows, and taskmaster challenges. These fun and engaging sessions help students practise and retain what they’ve learned.
Our presentation learning approach ensures that everything students do and see outside the classroom is used in their presentation. Our goal is for every child to learn both inside and outside the classroom during their time with us.
Safe and Secure
At ABC, our priority is making every student’s experience as safe and enjoyable as possible.
Students can learn English, have fun, and build confidence, all within the safety of our care.
All staff members are DBS checked and trained in Prevent Duty, welfare, safeguarding, and how to care for students during their stay.
Safety and security whilst students are with us is paramount. We follow policies and procedures to keep everyone safe, including fire safety, first aid and emergency protocols. These policies are available to students and parents, and each student receives a handbook and induction to ensure they understand the rules and know who to approach if they have concerns, problems, or feel homesick.
One Goal for Everyone
At ABC, we welcome students and staff from around the world. We strive to ensure that all students feel comfortable, happy, safe, and free from discrimination. The happiness, welfare, and progress of every student and staff member in our summer camps is our top priority. Everyone should show respect, regardless of differences. We are an international community that celebrates diversity and encourages learning from one another.
