Student Welfare & Support
At ABC, our top priority is to ensure that every student's experience is the best and safest it can be. We place great emphasis on safety and security, both inside and outside our camps.
We welcome students and staff from all around the world, and we strive to create an environment where everyone feels comfortable, happy, safe, and free from discrimination. The happiness, welfare, and progress of every student and staff member at our summer camp is of utmost importance. All students and staff should show respect to one another, regardless of any differences. As an international community, we believe in celebrating diversity and learning from each other.
We have established a charter for all staff and students to ensure that everyone at our camps has the right to:
Be safe and secure when studying or working.
Never face discrimination due to their religion, race, gender, age, or sexual orientation.
Have someone available and willing to listen whenever help or support is needed.
Be shown respect at all times and treat others with the same respect.
Safeguarding
Students at ABC can learn English, have fun, and boost their confidence, all while being cared for in a safe environment.
All of our staff are DBS checked and trained in Prevent Duty, welfare, and safeguarding. They are equipped to care for students around the clock, ensuring their well-being.
We provide a 24-hour emergency contact phone number, and our staff are always available to listen and provide support. This is a key part of our commitment to each student.
We have comprehensive policies and procedures in place to ensure the safety of everyone, including fire safety, first aid, and emergency protocols. These policies are made available to both students and parents. Each student receives a Student Handbook and undergoes an induction to ensure they understand the guidelines for having a safe and enjoyable time with us. Additionally, we administer a short test to ensure students fully comprehend the rules and know whom to approach if they have any concerns, worries, or feelings of homesickness.
Students are supervised throughout their stay, from the moment they arrive at the airport until their return home. Attendance registers are taken before each class or activity. At times, students may be unsupervised in certain areas, such as when moving from the classroom to the canteen. They may also be given up to one hour for group shopping. Any unsupervised activities are thoroughly risk-assessed by ABC.
All staff receive welfare and safeguarding training and are supported by experienced Safeguarding Leads who monitor and support both staff and students. Each camp also has a designated Safeguarding Person.
